VolunteersThe Australian Small Winemakers Show is run by a dedicated group of volunteers from all walks of life. They are all interested in the promotion of the Queensland Wine industry and the appreciation of Queensland wines.![]() President of the Australian Small Winemakers Show and Chairman of the Wine sub Committee of the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society. Warren and his wife Suzanne own Pyramids Road Winery at Wyberba… try his Bernie’s Blend. We are pleased that Suzanne is an expert with the computer as Warren does not like the email system. ![]() Chief Steward for the past 3 shows – and he’s showing it… he has been known to get a little tense during judging days! Ian is in the wine vinegar business through his company “LiraH” in Ballandean. A few years ago Ian won a Churchill Scholarship to study Wine Vinegar making in Europe. He was previously with Ballandean Estate Wines and still has a close association with them through his wife Robyn. ![]() Winemaker at Golden Grove Estate, Ballandean and a judge at other than ASWS wine shows. Has been known to get upset if you call him “Raymond”. His wife Jennifer is an analyst in the laboratory at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism. ![]() A Research Scientist at the Department of Primary Industry and a long time member, and past Chairman of the Committee. He, with his new wife Hannah, recently returned to Stanthorpe after a stint in North Queensland. Needless to say we have welcomed Hannah into our volunteer workforce. ![]() Angelo is another of the founding members of the ASWS Committee and he, and indeed his wife Mary, still work with us when there is work to be done. At their Ballandean Estate Winery they host each year the popular “Opera in the Vineyard” and other fund raising activities for Rotary International. ![]() A stalwart of the Show… always there to help. Arrived in Stanthorpe about 40 years ago and stayed. ![]() Yet another originator of the ASWS. A grape grower in Ballandean. Experienced Wine Show judge… and he’s available sans stubble. ![]() Has his own communication/ computer business and we are pleased to have him as a volunteer on our Committee… it has saved us a fortune. Doug is another with a very supportive wife Jenny and they are always there to help us. ![]() Vice President of the Wine sub Committee. A PE teacher at St Joseph’s School and knowledgeable wine drinker. Jim, with his wife Trish, grows Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at above 1000 metres altitude and had snow on the vines in 2008. ![]() Our Princess. A Science teacher who enjoys being transferred around Queensland… so we're lead to believe. Makes working with the Committee fun – she dresses for the occasion! ![]() An accountant who served on the committee for 10 years as Treasurer (what else?) and still works on Committee projects and is kind enough to bring his wife Nikki - to do the hard yards! ![]() Retired airline man… spent his time around the Pacific Rim and on a few of the Pacific Islands. Knows absolutely nothing about wine - except the pleasure of drinking it. Was the administrator of the 2004/5/6/7/9 ASWS – back on song for the 2010 show. ![]() One of the originators of the ASWS knows how it is to be the glass washer. Someone has to do it. ![]() One of the originators of the ASWS and a grape grower at Ballandean. Sam and his wife are working hard for the Show. ![]() A happy worker who has returned to the vineyards of Adelaide. ROGER ILOTT is a musician and record producer and, with PENNY DAVIES, has recorded 15 albums. Many of their songs feature on the ABC's Australia All Over radio program. Sonya Mather Administrator of the 2008 Australian Small Winemakers Show. She is also the Treasurer and Secretary of the Wine sub Committee… as well as the Secretary of the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society. But please, do not ever ask her to take the minutes of any meeting… she just might let you know what day it is if you do! Sonya spent a while as a teacher in China… and still returns there for holidays. ![]() Peter spends his time at Ridgemill Estate as the boss, as well as working for the ASWS. He is also the co-founder of the “Strange Bird” wine trail showing off the alternative wines grown on the Granite Belt. |
